Affordable Care Act
The Affordable Care Act (ACA) of 2012 requires health plans in the United States to cover “breastfeeding support, supplies and counseling by a trained provider during pregnancy and/or in the postpartum period.” However many insurances do not reimburse for lactation support.
It is always advisable to check with your particular insurance company to see what is covered, such as a home visit by a lactation consultant.
See MBC’s guidelines on [breast pumps] and breastfeeding support for more information on breast pumps. You can also visit healthcare.gov for information on breast pump insurance coverage.
