Mass. celebrates 2 new Baby-Friendly hospitals!

Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton and Fairview Hospital in Great Barrington were both notified in the past week that they have been officially designated as Baby-Friendly hospitals by Baby-Friendly USA. These hospitals join the 4 existing Baby-Friendly facilities: Boston Medical Center (1998), Cambridge Birth Center (2010), Southcoast Tobey Hospital (2011), and Melrose-Wakefield Hospital (2012).

Good Samaritan is the first hospital of the extensive Steward health care system to become Baby-Friendly and Fairview is the first hospital two hospitals of the Berkshire Health System to become Baby-Friendly.

Most Massachusetts hospitals are participating in a statewide Baby-Friendly Collaborative sponsored by Mass. Breastfeeding Coalition and supported by the Massachusetts Department of Health, which has augmented the Collaborative’s efforts with trainings and an online toolkit.
