National effort to increase Baby-Friendly hospitals is now underway

June 21, 2012

Boston —With a grant from the Centers from Disease Control and Prevention, the Boston-based National Institute for Children’s Healthcare Quality is undertaking a huge initiative to add 90 Baby-Friendly Hospitals in the next 22 months. Over 200 hospitals applied to participate. The focus of the effort is primarily on those hospitals serving lower socioeconomic populations in an effort to reduce health disparities.. Although no hospitals in Massachusetts were chosen, many of the 90 hospitals are considered national or regional leaders, which may in turn spur other hospitals to pursue the Baby-Friendly designation. See NICHQ’s press release for more information.
